Teamfight Tactics is about to change engines, and Set 18 is the vehicle. Enchanted Wilds hit the Public Beta Environment on July 28 and is expected to launch on live servers around August 26 with patch 18.1, the first TFT set built on Unreal Engine.

Why This Isn’t a Normal Set Launch

Riot’s given Enchanted Wilds an extended four-week PBE cycle instead of the usual shorter preview window, specifically to handle the migration. Every prior TFT set has run on the same engine since the game’s 2019 beta; moving to Unreal is a foundational shift, not a content refresh. Riot’s dev team has already published an overview covering Wisps, most of the new traits, and a PBE rundown to walk players through what’s changing.

What’s Ending

Set 17: Space Gods wraps up as Enchanted Wilds goes live, following the same pattern as Set 16: Lore & Legends, which closed the moment Space Gods launched on April 15. TFT has now shipped 17 full sets since 2019, roughly a set every four months on average.

Why It Matters

An engine migration this size rarely happens mid-franchise without disrupting something. If Riot pulls off Enchanted Wilds cleanly, it sets up TFT for features that weren’t possible on the old tech, and signals Unreal Engine adoption spreading further across Riot’s portfolio beyond just Fortnite-adjacent projects.
